Boggs Wasn’t Always Bad

Lilburn W. Boggs

We are all familiar with Governor Lilburn W. Boggs of Missouri and his 1838 issue of the Extermination Order against the Latter-day Saints. As rotten as he may seem, he wasn’t always this way. What ties did he have to the LDS church prior to becoming Governor of the state?

     a.      Even though not a member, he paid fast offerings to the Church
     b.      He once attended priesthood meeting with Joseph Smith
     c.       He rented a room to Peter Whitmer Jr.
     d.      It was him who convinced the Saints to settle in the area

Yesterday’s answer:

     a.      This is where the bible that Joseph used in the Bible revision was printed.

The Bible used by Joseph Smith in the bible revision was a “large family-style edition of the King James Version printed in Cooperstown, New York, in 1828 was used. The Prophet and Oliver purchased this Bible on October 8, 1829, from E. B. Grandin, at Palmyra, for $3.75.”
