From the life of Mary Ann Greathouse Downs: Mary Ann was born in Ohio in 1827. As a girl
in her teens she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and
because of this her father disowned her.
Mary Ann left her home and traveled to Winter Quarters
with an Aunt and Uncle, however the Aunt and Uncle decided to go back to Ohio
and wanted Mary Ann to come with them. She prayed about it and a person
appeared to her in a dream and pointed West. She knew her prayers had been
answered.
