the life of Emeline Beckstead Bills:
Emeline’s family was living in Williamsburg, Ontario, Canada when three
elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints came to their town.
The whole family was converted and her parents were baptized the same spring
Emeline was born.
On
their journey from Canada to join the Saints, they were confronted by a group
of fifty armed and angry mobsters at Crooked River. They were detained for
three days. The women set out to find water and the mob shot at them. Then
miraculously, a rain cloud appeared and in about twenty minutes, the rain was
pouring down. Crooked River because a raging torrent which cause the mobsters
to be concerned about saving their own lives. The prophet Joseph Smith,
himself, with fifty volunteers rescued the bedraggled company the next morning
and moved them to safety.
