Yesterday’s answer:
B.
Dogs
Dogs
led a tough life during the early years of Salt Lake City. The Mormon settlers
of the city were hard pressed for cloth, and it was common practice among the
pioneers to shave off the fur from the city’s dogs and weave it into cloth. As
a result, most of the Mormon pioneers wore dog coats and dog jackets during the
early years. Old-timers recalled that the cloth was a “little scratchy . . .
but it was warm.” Nobody knows how many of the city’s dogs died of pneumonia
during these first hard years.
