Parley P. Pratt
When it came
time to leave Nauvoo, not all were sold with the proposition of leaving their
comfortable homes for the uncertain climes of the west. It became necessary for
Church leaders to discuss the positive aspects of the move. One such leader was
Parley P. Pratt. At one time he was heard to say that they would build what
five times better?
a.
A new city
b.
A new
military force
c.
A new temple
d.
A new
university
Yesterday’s answer:
a.
Animal hair
caught on shrubs
Family
members commonly needed articles of clothing made or repaired when none of the
materials generally used to do so were immediately available. In these cases,
pioneer women again relied on their industry and ingenuity to meet the demand.
If necessary, cow or even buffalo hair, which pioneers had carefully collected
from sagebrush and preserved as they journeyed west, could substitute for wool.
In a pinch, women used animal skins to patch men’s pants; in times of great
need, they even used such skins to make full garments.
