Yesterday’s answer:
B) A kiss from any girl of his choosing
Husking
parties often began at twilight, when six or eight lanterns were hung around
the large piles of accumulated corn. “Then the crowd would gather and begin the
work, or fun, for it was fun,” insisted one participant. A competition might be
held to determine who could do the most work. Or perhaps the color of the corn
might be made into a game. If a girl found a rare red ear, it was evidence that
she would be the first of the girls to marry. If a boy found one, it meant he
was about to lose his girlfriend. There were variations. Occasionally the
special red ear gave a boy the right to kiss a girl—a “simple past time [that]
afforded a great deal of pleasure for the hard working people.”
