Defraying the Costs

At the turn of the century, what did the Church magazines (Improvement Era, Junvenile Instructor, Relief Society Magazine) do to defray the cost of publication?

a.      Like they do today, sold subscriptions

b.      Carried advertisements inside the magazine

c.       Used tithing funds

d.      Used fast offering funds

Yesterday’s answer:

c.   Doctors

Brigham Young stated, “Doctors and their medicines I regard as a deadly bane to any community. . . . I am not very partial to doctors.”

Brigham Young, August 8, 1869, Journal of Discourses, 26 vols. (London and Liverpool: LDS Booksellers Depot, 1855-86), 14:109.
