Elijah Sheets, a native of Pennsylvania, a convert to the Church, and a laborer on the Nauvoo Temple, was the bishop of the 8th Ward in Salt Lake City for 48 years, the longest active bishop in the Church. Three weeks after his release on June 12, 1904, he died while visiting a son in Rexburg, Idaho.
