In 1874, Brigham Young called Edward W. Davis to be the president of all the elders of the Church, a calling he retained until the death of Brigham Young in 1877. At that time this general authority position was abolished. Edward’s carpenter trade kept him busy, and he assisted in the finishing work in chapels and in the Salt Lake Tabernacle and the Salt Lake Temple.
