From the life of Henrietta Euphemia Lundquist Bell:   At an early age, Henrietta became interested in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the meetings much against the wishes of her father.

On one occasion, her father took Henrietta from one of the meetings and with a gun in his hand took her to the riverside and threatened her life if she would not give up Mormonism. She told him to shoot, that she could not give up her testimony of its truthfulness. Another time, he locked her in a room alone for three months to keep her from attending the meetings. She finally became ill and he was forced to release her. As she recovered, she went back to the meetings. Her father later took her forty miles away and left her with her sister. As soon as it was possible, she stole away and walked back to Malmo (Sweden).

Henrietta was sixteen when she left her home to go to Copenhagen, Denmark. She joined with some friends and Elders and sailed for the United States. She arrived in Salt Lake City in 1862.
