Some Discord in the Quorum of the Twelve

While the Quorum of the Twelve were on their 1835 mission to the east, some of the members of the Quorum became upset with Elder William E. McLellin. What was the issue?

a.                   He left a meeting before the closing prayer

b.                  He was preaching doctrine that was not correct

c.                   He prophesied that he would be the next prophet

d.                  He scheduled a second Sunday meeting without consulting the others

From the life of Mary Evans Baker:   Missionaries taught the Bakers, and Mary and her children were baptized as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over a five year period. However, Thomas never joined the Church and was adamantly opposed to the family going to America. He died in 1843 in England. Her son William vowed he would fulfill the wishes of his mother, and that she got to Utah. In 1862, Mary, along with William, and the daughters Caroline and Elizabeth, sailed on the ship. “Manchester.”

In Florence, Nebraska, William purchased an ox-team and wagon along with the supplies, such as 1,000 lbs. of four, seed grain, farm tools, a tent, pulley blocks, ropes, rifle, powder and lead, cooking and eating utensils, and food and bedding. He also carried in his wagon 600 pounds of glass which was designated for the Salt Lake Tabernacle. There was no room to ride on the wagon. They arrived in the Valley, October 1, 1862. Mary was sixty-four years of age when she crossed the Plains, walking all of the way.
