From the life of Mary Nash Adams:   Mary and her daughter emigrated January 9, 1851, on the ship “George W. Bourme,” and arrived in New Orleans, March 19, 1851.
Mary Nash’s daughter-in-law, Martha Jennings Adams, passed away in 1852, and William sent for his mother and sister to come help raise his three chidren. Being blind and sixty-six years old, the long trek across the Plains was very hard for her.
William took into their one-room home a widow and her four daughters and in July they were married, making ten people under one roof. Mary N. no took care of two families.
One of Mary’s grandsons wanted to trick Mary so he put his pants on backwards. Though blind, she scolded him and told him to change his pants. She couldn’t be fooled.
