Yesterday’s
answer:
D The Captain
was going to bury her dead son at sea
From the life of Martha Rawlings Webb: The family now included additional children:
Laura, Heber, George, and Luella. They left Liverpool on June 21, 1867, on the
sailing vessel Manhatten, and started
on their trip with 480 other saints. They were very sad because, except for one
of William’s sisters, no other members of their families came to tell them
good-bye.
One experience happened on the ship that strengthened
their faith. Measles broke out on board. Five-year-old George became very ill
and appeared to have died. The captain and others were about ready to say a few
words from the Bible and bury George in the sea. Heartbroken, Martha pleaded
with the captain to leave her alone with him for a few minutes .She prayed
earnestly that he would be spared. George raised up and asked her why she was
crying. She screamed, and the people rushed to her to find her holding a very
live George. Martha was grateful all the days of her life that her prayers had
been answered.
