From
the life of Lydia Catherine Mann Adams:
As he [David] walked down the street he was attracted to Lydia. He asked
her to marry him, she consented, they were married May 30, 1849. They continued
to live in Council Bluffs. On July 7, 1850, they had a son, George William, who
lived a little over a year.
Lydia
and her family joined the John Tidwell Wagon Train and arrived in Salt Lake
City on September 15, 1852. David was immediately sent to Cedar to help with
the iron mission. He returned to Salt Lake to get his family and take them with
him. While traveling, Lydia gave birth to a baby and the next day they traveled
on to Parowan. At one point, Lydia got out of the wagon to wash some baby
clothes in the snow. They then went on to Cedar and here they lived in the Old
Fort, for four years. They then moved to Adamsville. While living in
Adamsville, Brigham Young called David back to the iron foundry near Cedar. So
he took his family and they moved up near the foundry and were alone much of
the time.
