(C) The old Tabernacle
The
following from the life of Joshua Midgley, born October 15, 1832: The old
Tabernacle had been built in 1851-52 on Temple Square on the site now occupied
by the Assembly Hall. Jemima [Joshua’s wife], who had a fine voice and a love
of music, promptly became a member of the choir. Joshua was admitted to
membership in the eighteen-piece Tabernacle Choir orchestra as violin-cellist.
He also was asked to join the Deseret Quadrille Band, Captain Ball’s Band, and
William Pitt’s Nauvoo Brass Band.
