Wilford Woodruff at Benbow's pond in England where he baptized 599 of the United Brethren
Wilford Woodruff had a natural talent for
missionary work, by far the most successful missionary the Church has produced
to date. However, he really had a knack for ministers. When two ministers
interrupted Elder Woodruff during a baptism, what was it they insisted he do?
a.
Baptize them
b.
Leave the area immediately after the baptism
c.
Stop the baptism immediately
d.
Gave him an offer to preach in their Church
Yesterday’s answer:
(C)
1852
The answer might be
a little surprising. The missionary card had its first use in 1852. A blank space was
left at the bottom of the broadside where missionaries could add information
regarding their preaching locations. This was probably the first use in
Mormonism of the ”missionary card” containing the Articles of Faith, although
it was not until the 1870s and more fully after World War II that the
individualized Articles of Faith cards became standard fare for Mormon
missionaries.
