Yesterday’s answer:

a.      The Cardiff, Wales Band

When Bishop Chauncy W. West was presiding over the European Mission in 1862 for the Latter-day Saint Church, he heard a band play at Cardiff, Wales. All of its members were Mormons. On his return to Ogden, he raised money to send for them. . . .

The members of the Cardiff band crossed the Plains in 1863 in Thomas Rick’s company. Many concerts were given on the way. On arriving at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, the band gave a concert to the soldiers and remained with them overnight. The following morning the musicians were taken by the soldiers in the government ambulance to overtake the emigrant company. Upon arriving in Utah, they settled in Ogden and joined the famous brass band there.
