An Impossible Blessing . . . At Least, At the Time

When asked to give blessings, we as priesthood holders listen to the spirit and pronounce a blessing as the spirit dictates. But, what happens when the spirit prompts the individual giving the blessing to say something so improbable, that there is no possible way that it can be real? Remember, Nephi encounter the same situation. The spirit whispered to him to kill, when all his life he was taught it was wrong to kill. Understanding this, what promise did the Bishop who blessed the sick child of Brother Joseph Freeman state? Joseph Freeman was the first man of African descent to receive the priesthood after the 1978 announcement by President Spencer W. Kimball. This blessing to the sick child was given prior to the 1978 announcement.

a.      That the day would come when he would be given the priesthood

b.      That he would marry in the temple

c.       That he would serve a mission

d.      That he would one day become a bishop in the Church

Yesterday’s answer:

(D)   On her head and internally

January 18, 1840. Saturday: Went to see Sister Lea and found her quite insensible. Brother Woodruff prayed and rebuked the fowl spirits. We anointed her head and gave her some oil inwardly. I then prayed and rebuked the pain. After washing her forehead with rum she appeared better and we left her.
