In 1878, Charles
William Carroll recalled: “We had dances in the dining hall. We would shove all
the tables against the walls and shave soap on the floor to make it smooth. . .
. We had good music for our weekly dances. Brother Covington and Lon Cox would
trade off with the fiddle. That was all the instruments we had, but we thought
it was great.”
