At
a time when Joseph Smith’s life was in peril in Kirtland, it became necessary for
the prophet to be guarded at night so that he could get his necessary rest. One
evening, Joseph Smith told the brethren that wanted to guard him to go home to
their families because why?
a. Those
seeking his life went to a mob convention
b. He
heard the prayer of a child asking to watch over the prophet
c. He
just purchased a new hand gun that day
d. His
father blessed him stating that he would receive the Lord’s protection via the
Stripling Warriors
Yesterday’s answer:
c. Joseph Smith Jr.
On
December 18, 1833, while the elders were assembled at the John Johnson inn to
dedicate the printing office, Joseph Smith Sr. was called and ordained as
Patriarch to the Church by his son, Joseph Smith Jr., and Oliver Cowdery,
Sidney Rigdon, and Frederick G. Williams.
The first patriarchal blessings of this
dispensation were also bestowed at the meeting. Since the Prophet Joseph Smith
held the keys of all the authority in the Church, he gave the first blessings.
Those who received blessings on this occasion were Oliver Cowdery, Joseph Smith
Sr., and Lucy Mack Smith, as well as the Prophet’s brothers, Hyrum, Samuel, and
William.
