Yesterday’s answer:
(D) W. W. Phelps
In
June 1832 the first issue of the Church’s first periodical, The Evening and Morning Star, greeted
the public. On page 6 editor William W. Phelps focused on the Book of Mormon,
declaring that to bear testimony of its truth “is our duty.” He also commented
on Genesis 49: 22-26 regarding Joseph and a “fruitful bough . . . whose
branches run over the wall . . . unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills”
and tied this scripture with the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. Ezekiel
37: 16-19 was called to the readers’ attention, and for the first time in print
the world was told that the two sticks spoken of by that ancient prophet were
the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
