Yesterday’s answer:

C)   Steel from the destroyed U.S. army wagons

Brigham Young understood the need for a larger theater in Salt Lake City.  On July 1, 1861 ground was broken and work began on its construction. There were a number of obstacles to overcome, the most urgent being the lack of iron to construct the theater.

Being the resourceful individual that he was noted for, Brigham Young came to the rescue when he remembered that during the Utah War (Buchanan’s Blunder and Johnston’s Army) many of the government wagons had been destroyed on the Wyoming plains.  He sent teams out to collect all the metal from the destroyed Army equipment. It was this steel that was used in the construction of the theater.
