I remember
well the 1978 revelation extending the priesthood to “all worthy males”
regardless of ethnic origin. I was serving a mission at the time and both my
companion and I rejoiced at the news. We were teaching an interracial couple in
Vermont at the time. The lady was an African American whose only quip with not
joining the Church was that she felt the Church discriminated against her
people by not allowing them the priesthood. When we received the news, my
companion and I drove out to their place to share the exciting revelation, but
unfortunately the message did little to change her attitude.

(C) Piano
One day, ex U.S. President
Tyler walked into a music store in Richmond, Virginia and there saw Elder
Maeser (Karl G. Maeser-the first principle of the Brigham Young Academy)
playing the piano. President Tyler was so impressed with Elder Maeser’s ability
to play the piano that he hired the young elder to teach his daughter to play.
This helped to finance Elder Maeser’s mission.
