Parley and the Prophecy

 On July 4, 1839 the Saints in New York City were fasting and praying for Parley P. Pratt. Why were they fasting for Parley?


a.      That he would be set at liberty from jail in Missouri

b.      That his mission to that city would be a success

c.       That he could be sent on a mission to England

d.      That he would be made the next prophet of the Church

The following from the journal of Jesse N. Smith, dated February 1, 1863 while serving a mission to Scandanavia:


. . . Received a letter from Goerge A. Smith and Silas dated Salt Lake City Dec. 23. They both advised me to avoid over-exertion in speaking; and George A. recommended to me the counsel which the Prophet Joseph gave to him: viz., “Preach short sermons; make short prayers, and deliver your sermons with a prayerful heart, and you shall always prosper.”
