Many are familiar with
Joseph and Emma’s son Joseph Smith III, who would later in life become the
President of the RLDS church (Community of Christ). Very little has been said
of Joseph and Emma’s son Alexander who was born in 1838 at Far West Missouri
and named after Joseph’s trusted lawyer and friend, Alexander Doniphan, and his
mother’s maiden name. He too became involved with the RLDS church. What position
did Alexander hold?

In the nineteenth century,
there was little treatment available for victims of cholera, but those who
could swallow fluids were encouraged to do so. Common treatments also consisted
of some combination of calomel, camphor, opium, cayenne pepper, peppermint,
musk, ammonia, or mustard plasters.
