Maria von Trapp and the Mormons

Maria Von Trapp

I’m sure most people have seen the Sound of Music at one time or another in their lives. It’s a movie based off the true story of Maria who was to become a nun, but through a set of circumstances married a naval commander who was being heavily pressured by the Nazi’s to command the German navy just prior to the start of WWII. The Von Trapp family escaped Nazi occupied Austria and immigrated to the United States. Maria von Trapp also had her say in regards to the LDS Church. What did she say?

a.      “Like the Nazi’s, too many rules”

b.      “I always admired the Mormon Church”

c.       “Like Austria, the hills are alive in Salt Lake City with the sound of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir”

d.      “I’m a refugee just like the Mormon pioneers”

Yesterday’s answer:

C)   A very large thigh bone

The following is from the autobiography of William Leany (The Grandfather is Isaac Leany) and the story takes place in Kentucky:

Grandfather told of an interesting occurrence while on the old homestead. He said there were spots of soil so rich that the grain would grow tall and rank, falling before it could ripen. Many fragments of human bones were found in these places. One day he picked up a man's thigh bone, so long that when placed under his chin he could hardly reach the end with his fingers. In the Book of Mormon, speaking of those few that were left at the last great battle, it is said they were large and mighty men, as to the strength of men.
