Kirtland Society Bank note
We
often read that when the Kirtland Safety Society failed, many felt that Joseph
Smith was a fallen prophet and apostatized. What percentage of the 187 investors
actually left the Church?
a.
15%
b.
90%
c.
80%
d.
50%
Yesterday’s answer:
c. It has Biblical origins
Such
prophets as Samuel, Elijah, and Elisha conducted special schools that were
called here “the company of the prophets” ( 1 Samuel 19:20).
Elsewhere,
the men who attended these schools were called “sons of the prophets” (1 Kings
20:35). This fact is of interest to Latter-day Saints because Joseph Smith set
up a similar school in Kirtland, Ohio, to help teach priesthood holders their
special duties.
