It is true, and many know, that during the 1850’s the Church held what we call fast and testimony meeting today on the first Thursday evening of the month. This meeting covered the bases for a number of things to be accomplished. What one thing was not allowed at the meeting?

a.      Consecrating oil

b.      Blessing the sick

c.       Speaking from the pulpit

d.      Blessing anyone that desired a blessing

Yesterday’s answer

a.        Joseph Smith

September 4, 1837—President Smith then presented Sidney Rigdon and Frederick G. Williams as his counselors, and to constitute with himself the three first Presidents of the Church. Voted unanimously in the affirmative, except for Frederick G. Williams, which was not carried unanimously.

President Smith then introduced Oliver Cowdery, Joseph Smith, Sen., Hyrum Smith, and John Smith for assistant counselors. These last four, together with the first three, are to be considered the heads of the Church. Carried unanimously.
