Sunday Tidbits- Death Bed Rituals and Women Anointings

On Thursday, April 28, 1842 at 2 pm., Joseph Smith met and spoke to the Relief Society in Nauvoo. He taught the following as found in History of the Church 4:604 and recorded by Eliza R. Snow:  Respecting females administering for the healing of the sick, he further remarked, there could be no devil in it, if God gave His sanction by healing; that there could be no more sin in any female laying hands on and praying for the sick, than in wetting the face with water; it is no sin for anybody to administer that has faith, or if the sick have faith to be healed by their administration.

Brigham Young also stated, as found in Discourses of Brigham Young (page 212), that "It is the privilege of a mother to have faith and to administer to her child; this she can do herself, as well as sending for the Elders to have the benefit of their faith."

I state this due to the sensitivity of the subject and not to give the appearance of spreading false doctrine.
