It’s not
uncommon for those with physical impairments to serve. They are no different
than you or I and have the same strong desire to help in any way that they can.
I have a nephew with a number of challenges (Turrets, Non-verbal learning disorder, OCD, ADHD, and Dyslexia) from Fort McMurray, Alberta. It has been his desire
to serve a mission. Whenever he, along with my sister and Brother-in-law, have
approached their Bishop, the answer was always no. Of course my nephew was
saddened each time at the news. He had worked hard to save until he had enough
money to serve a mission. A change was made in the bishopric, and again my
nephew asked if he could serve a mission. This time was different. The bishop
said that he couldn’t be sent on a regular two year mission, but that he could
be sent on a 1 year service mission. He was elated to say the least. He has
been called to serve in Edmonton, Alberta and is now winding down on a rich
experience.
Brother
Hendricks is an example to all of us. What did Brother Hendricks do to help
provide service when the Saints first settled the Salt Lake Valley?
A) Crawled to kill crickets
B) Crawled to clean the meetinghouse
C) Crawled to plant wheat and corn
D) Crawled to home teach
Yesterday’s answer:
(B) Preston (England) Ward
Ever
since 1837 the Church has had a presence in Preston. The Preston Ward is the
oldest continuous unit of the Church in the world.
