That the Church could settle in the State of Maine
One of the individuals that Brigham Young
wrote to was Hugh J. Anderson, the Governor of the state of Maine, seeking
asylum at the time the Saints were expecting expulsion from the state of
Illinois. This was largely due to the fact that there had been very little
persecution towards the Saints in this state.
