In the hayfield where young Spencer Kimball was tromping hay for his older brothers, he could hear the meetinghouse bell sound for Primary. An unusually conscientious child, he had kept a perfect attendance record at all his church meetings for years, and he asked permission to leave to go to Primary. His brothers would not grant his request, stating that he was needed in the work that afternoon. Spencer knew that his father would let him go if he were there, so as soon as he saw the opportunity, he slid off the wagon unnoticed and was halfway to the chapel before his brothers missed him.
