From the life of Caroline Pullen Batchelor:   Caroline and Edward lived in Brixton, England, while raising their family of five children, and Caroline helped sustain the family by taking in washing, her children would help by delivering the clean clothes to the various customers.

She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, April 20, 1857, when she was thirty-six years old. Edward was very angry with her, but he was also to become a convert and he joined the Latter Day Saints four years later. The whole family became so faithful they walked seven miles to church every Sunday.
