The following about the Salt Lake Theater:   The construction of this edifice was not without difficulty. Just north of the playhouse was an old water wheel on City Creek. It furnished the power for hoisting the massive timbers used in the building. One of the main problems was how to obtain iron and steel. President Young remembered that, in the course of the Utah War, may government wagons had been burned and destroyed near Fort Bridger. He sent a number of men with wagons to gather up the wreckage, and the discarded metal was hammered by hand into nails.
