The
following dream related by Joseph F. Smith while speaking at the opening of the
State Capitol Building: While in a
foreign land in 1856 I had a wonderful dream of which this magnificent monument
(the State Capitol Building) reminds me today. In this dream, I saw before me
the greatest and most magnificent building I had ever beheld. It shone and
glistened, I turned from the building and before it I saw what seemed to be thousands
of people. Though a boyhood dream, it has remained with me vividly throughout
my life. I had not expected to see the fulfillment of that dream, but today
here is the magnificent building and the crowds before it.
